Knowledge:
Learn about the Supreme Court. Possibly a very dry subject to learn about but I honestly couldn't carry on a conversation for more than a minute about this important branch of government. I had a devastating personal moment a few weeks ago when I realized I could name all the celebrity babies of 2006 but only 2 or 3 Supreme Court Justices. This with a daily dose of The Daily Show has motivated me to pass on People and learn more about real people who influence and shape this country. I've chosen this book to read in January:

Family:
I am determined to find the fun in imagination play. It's embarrassing to admit, but I dread pretend play. It's so boring. Obviously, I have a very lame imagination. Changing this will be my first new family goal. Any ideas on how to spice up imagination play time.
Food:
I already made Tempura this week. It wasn't as great as I thought it would be so I will have to revisit it again after some research on a better batter. I want to learn to cook a new type of fish...I think Seared Mediterranean Tuna Steaks sound amazing. I love seafood but usually settle eating it at a restaurant.
New things is so much fun...well maybe not the Supreme Court part but the rest should be.

One thing that's a challenge about imaginative play is that it has no finite ending. It's an important part of development though. I think it's done especially well with their friends. I like to do things with my kids that have a finite ending, like puzzles, games, story time, cooking together and art projects. These fall into the realms of things we can do together that we both enjoy.
Great Book idea. Thanks. :)
You can have a lot of fun with pretend play if you make it silly. Try to get Afton to be as humorous with you as possible. You will both end up laughing a lot. On the tempura, having served a mission in Japan let me just say that unless you are buying the batter and crumbs from a Japanese store, it's not going to be good. Make sure you are getting ingredients from an Asian market. Their flour is different than ours. Ground differently, etc.
I'm missing you!
