Service
I was totally bummed to have to miss our play group's visit to a retirement home to carol and visit yesterday. (I was stuck at home waiting for the pest control service to prevent Christmas cockroaches from invading my kitchen via my neighbors kitchen... I can't wait to get out of this apartment!!) What a great thing to do during the holidays! Our playgroup does this every few months, but it could easily be turned into a joint family event or you and your child could adopt a grandparent to visit each month.
Tradition
Growing up with only sisters has lots of perks. Clothes are everywhere to borrow, there is always someone in the mood to just talk and most every year my Mom would organize a lovely cookie exchange party for us and friends during the holidays.
I love cookie exchanges even more as an adult because I really don't enjoy baking more than or or two items during the holidays. I make 6 dozen (this year it was Scottish shortbread dipped in various chocolate...thanks to Laura for the chocolate inspiration!), have a great time with old and new friends then arrive home with a lovely assortment of things to nibble and share.
Here are some photos of the cookies, which Afton and I samples after a smoothie breakfast.
