deal of the week

Who knew that buying a house was the invitation to the sweetest deals ever? People I don't really know (lender, agent, etc) give me house warming gifts (gift cards to Home Deport and the movies to be exact). Some form I filled out landed me on the mailing list for local businesses, who have been flooding my mail book with coupons for FREE STUFF..and it is for stuff I actually want like ice cream, oil changes grocery discounts and car washes. My latest coupon has been super excited because I've never ever seen one. A coupon for a Pottery Barn discount. 10% really adds up there so I am selecting my purchase wisely. I'm whispering in Patrick's ear while he is asleep about this bed:

It's the perfect bed for us...and don't we deserve one after 8 years of marriage. I mean a married couple really ought to have a decent bed! And after all, we can save 10%...

This looks like a Liz bed and not one for Patrick. but it still looks cool. I like metal, easy to decorate around. I would go for 30 % off though.

i love this bed! and metal is better than wood (i think) because it's see-through kind of. so it feels like less space.

Before you get any more serious about this bed I must revert to the interior designer/Ethan Allen salesgirl that I still am. Check out the iron bed at your local EA, or online (I know you have one b/c my friend moved to boulder and worked there:)) It is the same design, just simpler details, much less expensive, even with your discount, you'll get free delivery and they'll set up teh bed for you and take away all the boxes and wrap that it came in, and best of all you'll never feel a wiggle or hear a squeak. I have clients that went ahead with teh PB iron beds and so regret it. I repeat a grown-up bed must never wiggle or squeak! We bought our grown-up bed in VA since I had a discount and hauled it here and set it up on our own. Without expounding, it's oh so wise to not have to assemble any furniture yourself. I still have boxes loitering my my house. Ok, off the box I step...It's a beautiful bed!

thanks for the EA tip Kelly. I always thought it would be just as expensive!

I agree with Kelly. Every piece of furniture I have ever bought from pottery barn has been total crap and fallen apart. I have sworn I will never buy anything from them again.

However, we have a chair & a half, two leather arm chairs, a leather 3 seater couch, a king sized bed, a dresser and an armoir from Ethan Allen, and I have been delighted with them all. Years (and 4 kids) later, they are really holding up well, and still look good. They really were not that much more expensive than the pottery barn one's - and considering they'll probably last 10X as long - will end up being a better deal.

I've got 9 years of marriage without a bed...you can last at least one more right? *chuckles* Is it obvious that I'm jealous over the bed? It's very cool...and cheaper at EA, hey no bad either!

I'm going to chime in, too, about PB. We have looked at stuff over the years and decided we'd be better off buying antiques that cost the same as the PB stuff. However, I know that's not your style. Anyway....
