house help
I need help! I've narrowed my house hunting down to two town homes. Both are in the same complex (new, pool, gym, trials, etc). One has 2 bedrooms upstairs with a finished basement that is one big room that I would use as a family room/playroom/office. I love the idea of the media stuff being out of sight in the basement and having a playroom. The other unit has 4 bedrooms, 2 up and 2 down and a small living room. Which do I go for? We will be growing our family here, but not staying for years and years. Do I go for an awesome play/living space or the extra rooms and a small office? Also, do I want my kids rooms downstairs and mine all the way upstairs? The photo is the of the living room, which cuts off at the wall just after the tiled entryway.
Any advice?

I HATE that my bedroom is upstairs and the kids' rooms are downstairs. there is never going to be a week you will not need to go down and comfort someone (?) so I vote for the easier set-up with the rooms close together. I would give up 800 sqaure feet of my home to get our bedrooms together. It drives me that nuts.
i say go with the big basement, and if you need it have it divided into another room. good luck!
Yeah...I'm just jealous of the whole house hunting thing in general. Excuse me while I quiet my sobs with a batch of chocolate chip cookies.
No, seriously, I would totally go for the big play room. Totally.
Yep, I'm agreeing with the other ladies so far...the big basement is the way to go.
duh- I guess I never really answered your question, as both options have 2 bedrooms upstairs, the deal break being the bottom half little rooms or big open space.
* we have a lot of open space in our place and it's nice for mike to watch t.v. while I am on the computer and Zane to play as we are technically in the same room- we can talk and do whatever we all want in the same space. Our extra bedroom is empty, so get the place you think you will better utilize the space with.
my vote: the one w/less bedrooms, you don't hang out as a family in bedrooms anyway and the big space is where you will all want to gather the most.
The big playroom would be awesome, but it woulld be hard for me to be limited to only 2 bedrooms, period-unless you curatined something off. I'm glad I'm not the one choosing!
thanks for all the advice! the townhomes ended up being in a crappy school so we didn't have to choose!
