Fabulous friend Amy (who really needs to start a blog so I can link to her!) has asked me to post some music ideas-that kids and parents alike will enjoy-for her playgroup holiday gift CD's. Here are some suggestions:
1. Vintage Children's Music. This music is so much fun. I like that there is no phony background music, just lovely little voices singing. I especially loved "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" when I was a kid. I'm so happy to have found it again! It's also a book!
2. Backyardigans Soundtrack. I know this is more for kids, but parents will love the fun lyrics that encourage imagination play. Afton and I are big fans of this show, check it out here.
3. They Might Be Giants. I lost myself on their fun website and listened to some new fun alphabet based tunes. Of course, everyone in the house will love this!!
4. Dan Zanes House Party. This is my favorite kid/parent music. The Disney Channel has been featuring this great dance music for a few months. It always makes me smile.
5. Curious George Soundtrack. Who doesn't feel better listening to Jack Johnson? I like turning this on during dinner and on long car drives. It's mellow and happy.
6. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Soundtrack. Honestly, this music makes me crazy but Afton is in love with it. It is good for family dance parties.
7. Disney Classics. Disney music brings back memories for parents and kids love to hear their favorite movie music in the car. The vintage songs such from Peter Pan, Cinderella, Jungle Book and more (before celebrities took over) are family favorites.
I know my other fabulous friends will have great music recommendations to share as well!!

Got to wuv They Might Be Giants!
"The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a giant nuclear furnance. Where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees...."oh I can hear the accordian now :)
Ah....someone else who love TMBG!! We've watched the DVD and listened to the CD countless times. Have you tried "No!" That's even more awesome.
Great list. I'm happy I have an iPod now so I can download that playlist....when I figure out how to use my iPod.
question about the TMBG CD, would it be appropriate to give an 8/9 year old? or is it geared towards the younger set?
Great list!
Jenni: I think the alphabet cd would be too young, but their other cd's would be great.
