Some days the kids just don't play/respond/behave like we need. Here are a few of my activities and strategies to make a "shut-the-bedroom-door-and-scream" day turn around:
1. Water Play. Get out big bowls, measuring cups and spoons, funnels and some bath toys. Lay out a towel and let the kids go at it.
2. Balloons. What toddler doens't hink bonking a balloon around is loads of fun?
3. Lollipops. Makes a frown turn into a smile every time!
4. Bubbles. Won't ruin carpet or wood so they are good for inside and out.
5. Popcorn and Movie time. We do this every Friday night but some Tuesdays I break it out to save the day.
6. Skip the schedule. Somedays I feel like being at home makes me crazy. I forgo naptime (gasp!) and take the kids out to lunch and to play somewhere we haven't been in a long time. Then we have ice cream to top it all off.
7. Build a fort. Usually Patrick tackles this activity and I am the enemy (meaning they hide from me and I attack). So much fun-especially since Patrick cleans it up!
8. Tickling. I have invented several games that revolve around Afton getting tickled. Seeing her laugh uncontrollaby makes me feel so great!
9. Bake something. Even if it's hot and you're trying to lose weight; baking cookies, brownies, a cake or muffins is a big distraction for a little helper.
10. Cuddle time. When all else fails, wrap your arms around your little one and just snuggle 'em.

by the way, you must have bedroom doors that you can close and scream behind now, huh? not here in tuckahoe. nowhere to hide.
bedroom doors are great! you can always go in the basement laura! i love having a regular apt layout. i think i'll blog about that today.
This was great timing for me! thanks for the list. i think the popcorn/ movie time will be the frist one i try when i need to.
